The Lodge at Loon Lake, located in Chestertown, New York, has a storied history that begins with its construction in 1956.
Originally named “The Viking,” this charming establishment was built on the site of a former farm, where a notable big red barn once stood. Notably, the original farm house and the quarters for helpers still exist and thrive in the same area.
In 1970, the Prossick family acquired the motel, and they dutifully operated it for nearly two decades, overseeing its daily affairs until the late 1980s.
In 1980, the Conway family took ownership of the property, and they decided to change the motel’s name to “Conway’s Lake Manor.” Under the Conway family’s stewardship, the establishment continued to provide a peaceful lakeside experience for its guests.
In 1996, the Clench family purchased the motel, coinciding with Bob Clench’s retirement from the communications business. This marked a significant transition in the motel’s history, as it continued to be a cherished destination under the Clench family’s management.
Now, in 2023, a new era begins as the Johnson family takes over the motel. With this change in ownership, the name of the property was once again altered, this time to “The Lodge at Loon Lake.” The Johnson family is committed to upholding the traditions and serenity of this beautiful lakeside retreat, ensuring that guests can continue to enjoy the peaceful and scenic experience that this location has offered for decades.
